I promised myself this year I would get back on track, get back to the basics, work the basics, play the basics, keep it simple stupid and stupidly simple.
It seems that the last decade has been alternating periods of clear focus mixed with periods of mind churning chaotic brain chatter. The world today offers so many options (ever look, really look at the toothpaste aisle?) technology never stops changing, companies never stop offering better, faster ways to do business. Even our phones are not so simple now. I will admit when I got my latest phone it took me several tries to even figure out how to answer it. Since nothing comes with printed directions any more if I can’t access the phone how can I access the electronic manual! Needless to say I can totally relate to the commercial from a few years back where the guy buys the “3D” tv only to see an ad for “4D” before his new TV is even plugged in. It seems the next new thing comes to us daily now and any decision technology wise will be an outdated decision in minutes.
So how to cope? Back to the basics for me. I am going to clean up my desk, stop being distracted by each shiny new object. Serve my clients well. Spend real time with my family & friends. Take some time each week for a creative project to help clear my mind and bring focus to my passions. I will let you know how it goes.
